How does the chocolate get into the Advent calendar?

Little children (and not only the little ones) insist on having an Advent calendar – otherwise it’s simply not Advent. They love opening one of the little doors each morning, one day after the other, and looking forward to what they’ll find there. And that’s usually chocolate.

WDR (a German broadcaster) has placed a short video online that can be watched via YouTube, all about how the chocolate gets into the Advent calendar.
But the more important question for everyone with a sweet tooth is: “How do I get to the chocolate?”
Well, the calendar has little doors – 24 of them altogether.

And how do the doors get into the calendar? Mr Herter, owner of the company Herter Druck GmbH, based in Kenzingen in Germany, did quite a bit of thinking about that, contacted the company “allfa-maschinenhandel” and ordered a Brausse IMG 1050 SE flatbed die-cutter, specially made for cutting little doors in calendars.

In March this year, a team from the company Ernst Pfaff GmbH of Hamburg dismantled the die-cutter at its old location in Osnabrück and drove it to its new site in Kenzingen, where they skilfully reassembled it and put it into operation – and Mr Herter is now ideally prepared for the coming production season.
